Scandinavian restraint, on a small-business budget
Responsive Hive is a two-person web design studio in Odense, Denmark. We started in 2023 with one stubborn idea: most small businesses do not need a bigger website, they need a clearer one.
The studios that do careful, restrained design work tend to charge enterprise prices. The people who serve small businesses tend to hand over a template and a login. We sit deliberately in the gap between the two — the discipline of considered design, scaled to a budget a local business can actually meet.
That means we say no a lot. We take on a handful of projects at a time so that the two of us can do the work ourselves, instead of selling you our attention and delivering someone else's. It is a smaller business by design, and we like it that way.
Mette Kjaer
Mette designs the work. She spent eight years in editorial and print design before moving to the web, which is where the studio's habit of restraint comes from. She handles layout, typography and brand identity design.
Rasmus Holm
Rasmus builds the work. His background is front-end development and accessibility, and he is the reason the sites stay quick and usable on real devices. He handles the responsive build, performance and the practical hand-over.
